気候変動による損失と被害
Climate Justice Now Symposium (Tokyo, Japan) August 1st, 2016
At the Paris Climate Conference (COP21) in December 2015, all participating countries adopted a universal agreement to limit the global climate temperature rise to 1.5 degrees. However, the agreement itself is not enough to stop the dangerous climate change unless countries, especially developed countries, modify their national goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions more dramatically.
Furthermore, the impacts and damage caused by climate change are already appearing, especially in the developing countries. People are deprived of their livelihoods, culture and housing, and caught in a vicious cycle of poverty.
This symposium aimed to share information about the experiences and reality of climate change by activists and civil society groups in Asian countries, and to share the idea of climate justice and urgency of these issues with wider audiences. We also highlighted some issues that arise in the name of "solutions" to climate change and relationship between climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
