The “Basic Energy Plan” sets the foundation of Japan’s energy policy, with the first plan created in 2007 and has been regularly reviewed since then. In 2021, the Sixth Basic Energy Plan has been formulated, but it still emphasizes nuclear power and coal-fired thermal power, and does not take into account drastic demand reduction or social transformation.

FoE Japan is calling for a shift from dependence on nuclear power and fossil fuels to a 100% renewable energy society in a sustainable and community-based manner.
