Feed in Tariff (FIT)
The Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) for renewable energy was introduced in 2012 to promote renewable energy development in Japan such as solar, wind, and biomassInitially, the purchase price was set much higher than the market price, which led to the rapid expansion of renewable energy. At the same time, however, adverse effects have also arisen, such as the construction of solar power plants that involve the destruction of forests and biomass power plants that import large amounts of fuel produced by destroying forests overseas. FoE Japan works to ensure the renewable energy development not harm communities and envionment by research and advocacy.
