Save Antarctic!
For more than ten years, FoE Japan has been an active member of the Antarctic and South Ocean Coalition (ASOC), working to create Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Antarctic. Our goal is to see a network of MPAs covering at least 30% of the Southern Ocean by 2030.
The main international body responsible is the Convention for the Conservation of Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), which meets every October.
Japan is a supporter of biodiversity protection as in the Aichi Targets under the Convention on Biodiversity and Goal 6 (Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development) of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are campaigning to see that Japan does it utmost to achieve those goals.
