The Pahang-Selangor Raw Water Transfer Project in Malaysia (Kelau Dam)
There is a gigantic
project being promoted where it transfers water in the tunnel
by constructing a dam in the Kelau river flowing at the center of
the Malay Peninsula. The purpose is to deal with an increasing water
demand for Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding areas. The
Japanese government also has already backed up this business, considering
an enormous amount of yen loan up to 82.04 billion yen. However, the
local NGO is continuously raising its voice to question the necessity
of the dam nor the worry about the resident move and the influence
on the river ecosystem. Should we allow the Japanese government to
invest such an enoumous amount of our tax in "a project without
a social mutual agreement" or "a project unnecessary"?
